FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cyanoacrylate Questions and Answers

What is Cyanoacrylate (CA)?

CA glue, also known as super glue, is a fast-acting adhesive that is used for a variety of applications. An adhesive possessing an extremely high push-pull strength, but a low shear strength, CA glues are often used to bond wood, rubber, metal, fiberglass, leathers, and most plastics. During polymerization, the adhesive reacts to the moisture present on the surface.

What materials do CA bond to and not bond to?

CAs bond well to wood, rubber, fiberglass, carbon fiber, metal, and most plastics. CAs do not bond well to foam, silicon, and extra smooth surfaces. In such instances, it is advised to make the surfaces abrasive using sandpaper or a metal scrubber prior to bonding.

Is CA harmful to any material?

CAs are safe to use with most materials and for each of our CAs, we list various compatible materials. However, standard CAs eat away at foam, so we do not recommend using a lot of it. The only exception is when using standard CAs on EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam, as a regular CA will not eat away at it. In all instances when working with foam, it is advised to test a drop of the CA glue on the material before proceeding.

How do I store my CA glue?

CAs reacts to humidity and heat by curing and thickening, so it is best to keep it in a cool, dry place. GLUEMASTERS™ guarantees up to 30 months of shelf life for clear GLUEMASTERS™ CAs kept under 40° F before and after use.

Storage tips after use: Tap the bottom of the glue bottle on a hard flat surface to draw any remaining glue that is present in the nozzle cap. Clean the exterior of the nozzle cap of any excess glue. Apply the black nozzle stopper onto the tip of the nozzle cap. The stopper provides a dual purpose. It acts as a cover for the nozzle cap, and the small built-in needle will prevent the nozzle from clogging.

Is GLUEMASTERS™ CA glue Waterproof?

Yes, once the curing process is complete, our glues can be used as an efficient waterproof sealant.

What do the different CA viscosities mean?

Viscosity can simply be thought of as the thickness of a fluid. Viscosity is scientifically measured interchangeably in centipoises (cps) and millipascal-seconds (mPas), with 1 cps or mPas being the same as water. GLUEMASTERS™ provides you with the exact viscosity measurement in its product descriptions to make sure you know what you are getting. The number refers to the viscosity of the CA. For example, our thin 05 cps bottle has a viscosity of 2 cps/mPas. From a water-thin 05 to a thick, oil like 1500, GLUEMASTERS™ carries a wide selection of viscosities to suit various applications.

What do I do if I get my fingers glued together?

If Our Debonder is available, apply a generous amount of the solution onto your fingers. Gently rub them together for a few minutes until the fingers are free. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

How do I know which GLUEMASTERS™ CA to use?

We list unique properties of each CA and the different applications others have successfully performed with each CA. For example, thin CAs are generally used for stabilizing porous material such as soft wood through capillary action and can be more ideal than a wood hardener. Thin to medium CAs are used to bond tight-fitting, nonporous material. Thicker CAs bond well to uneven surfaces and are used for gap filling.

What do the numbers on the CAs mean?

The number refers to the viscosity of the CA. For example, our 05 thin bottle has a viscosity of 5 cps/mPas.

General Questions

Why is my Debonder or Accelerator take longer to get delivered
